Does anyone know if there has been any change in the law that will allow you to transfer your d/l with hazmat from one state to the other with out going thru all the bs all over again. I just received an offer from a former employer but it requires relocating and if I loose the hazmat, well no job.

From TSA website:

"If you have completed a threat assessment before, and you are tranferring your HME to another state, you do not have to go through another assessment for the transfer if your new state can issue an HME that expires within 5 years of your last assessment."

As I understand it, if you completed your background check last year, your new cdl with HME would only be good for four years. The background check has to be updated every five years to make sure no one is using you CDL other than you! I am surprised they let 5 years pass without a recheck, but at $60 to $105 a pop, I can understand why.

If you need more info, I would check with the DMV in the state that you are heading to find out what they will tell you before you make that move. Every state should have the same requirement, but not every clerk is very well versed in the guidelines. Washington DC will not give an HME until the employer sends a letter stating why the driver needs the HME. So please call the state you are moving to and check prior so you will not be disappointed. And good luck!

Thanks , I'll contact Florida DMV and see what they have to say. It should be interesting every time you talk to them you get a different opinion.
